About this event

This “night of fire” is the day that marks the summer solstice and the birthdate of Saint John the Baptist. Traditionally the eve of this catalan holiday is celebrated by lighting large bonfires and eating a slice of the special cake known as coca de Sant Joan.

Top Tip

Stop at a bakery, pick up a few slices of the coca and head to Barceloneta beach with a picnic and a bottle of cava to watch the firework displays and listen to the music playing in the chiringuitos (beach bars). The beach gets increasingly hectic as the night goes on. If you’re traveling with children, head to Montjuïc castle and watch the city from above instead.
