Fun fact

The origin of the tapa is up in the air and largely depends on where you are in Spain. There’s debate over whether it was King Phillip the II or Alfonso the Wise who created a medical order during the Middle Ages that stated that no alcohol could be served at any establishment without food. Then there’s the belief that the first tapa was actually just a hunk of bread (others believe it was ham) that rested on your drink to keep the flies out, and therefore the word “tapa” means “to cover”. Whoever it was, we’re glad they did!
