If you wake up late and miss breakfast, no worries, we’ve got you covered with a Catalan style brunch. The truth is, most locals don’t “do brunch” and instead start their day with a cup of coffee and a pastry or simple sandwich. But in this class we’ve turned it up a notch by refining our favorite traditional brunch dishes and rejuvenating them with some Catalan flair. We promise, it’s enough to convince you to get up and out of bed ;)
As with most foodie history, the origin of brunch is a bit unclear. Some believe that England started it all with their country breakfasts where the men would load up on a full spread of kidneys, fowl, tongues, pigeons, hams, fruits and sweets before a big day's hunt. Not quite the eggs benedict that we’re used to nowadays. Others believe that Sunday brunch comes from the Catholic custom of fasting before mass and then all coming together for a large midday meal. Whatever the origin, one thing’s certainly true: brunch is all about gathering together.
