About this place

What we love about Begur is its enveloping sense of history, with a striking medieval castle and its labyrinth of narrow streets. Not to mention its breathtaking coves and beaches that are some of the most admired in the Costa Brava.

What to do

  • Explore the historic centers colonial style houses. A lot of Spaniards moved to Cuba, made their fortune off of tobacco, then returned and built their houses. Our favorite is Casa Pere Roger.
  • If you happen to visit in September, try and go to the Fira dels Indians where the whole town dresses in white and celebrates their Cuban Colonial past.
  • A popular coastal path is from the beach of Malaret in Aiguablava to Begur. This is a beautiful 1 hour hike. And for the bold, you can continue the path up to Pals for another 1.5 hours ;)

Where to go

  • Standing proudly in the middle of the town is the 1,000 year old Begur Castle. Head on up to the top for some nice panoramic views.
  • Swim at the Sa Reira beach.
  • Explore any of their coves: Aiguablava, Sa Tuna, Aiguafreda and Illa Roja. They may be a bit difficult to get to but it’s any local’s best kept secret.

Where to eat

  • Head to the weekly farmers market every wednesday.
  • Eat lunch at Turandot. You’ll feel right at home.
  • In April, the town hosts a gastronomic festival where all of the restaurants serve rockfish.
